Steep Yourself In The Culture Of Tea!
Quality loose leaf tea is an amazing value. Not only does loose leaf tea taste much better than its bagged counterpart but it typically yields 50 cups of delicious tea per 1/4lb package. Also, if brewed properly, most teas can be infused 2-3 times yielding 100 to 150 cups! Even the most expensive of teas cost roughly $.50 per cup, not bad when you consider the price of a cup of coffee today.

Brewing
Quality tea must be brewed properly to be fully appreciated. Tea leaves must have a chance to expand to release their essential oils and complex flavors. A brew-basket or traditional teapot are the methods we recommend.
Leaves - One teaspoon of quality tea leaves per 8oz cup of fresh water is the suggested ratio. Some lighter teas will require a bit more. You are encouraged to experiment to find the ratio that best suits your taste!
Water - Start with the purist water available, filtered or bottled is best. General rule of thumb is: rolling boil (212F) for black tea, herbal tisanes and darker oolong teas. Cooler water (160-180F) is best when preparing green, white or lighter oolong teas.Brew Time - If you steep your tea longer than recommended, most varieties will taste bitter. Over-steeping also extracts the flavor of the tea in the first infusion, not allowing you to brew the same leaves more than once.
 Here’s a quick guide:

  • 5 min. for Black Teas and Herbal Tisanes
  • 6-7 min. for White and darker Oolong Teas
  • 2-3 min. for Green and lighter Oolong Teas
